Education Lesson: Breakfast is For Champions

Before I became plant-based, I felt that what I was eating for breakfast (when I did!) probably wasn't so great for me. Thankfully, a whole foods plant-based lifestyle offers several life-giving options. On weekdays, I eat 1/2 cup of steel-cut oats (that I cook in my pressure cooker on Sundays for the entire week) with fruit, cinnamon, and ground flaxseeds. Sometimes, I also make whole-grain pancakes and eat them with fruit and a touch of real maple syrup. Or, I might have an occasional bowl of whole-grain cereal, fruit, and plant-based milk. There are dozens of delicious, filling breakfast options!

The main thing to remember is that a breakfast full of fat and sugar is not going to heal or rejuvenate your body. Stick to whole foods as much as possible. Eat plenty because this meal is the fuel that starts your day. That said, please don't eat the minute you get up if you don't feel hungry quite yet. It's OK to do your morning walk or jog without a meal in your stomach. In fact, it's BETTER. Whatever you do, start the day right with a satisfying, life-giving breakfast.
